Find Similar. If the two most utilitarian types of vehicles are pickup trucks and vans, wouldn't the ideal workhorse be a combination of the two?
Such reasoning must have been behind Centurion Vehicles' decision to combine a Ford F-series pickup truck and an E van into the freakish, yet phenomenal van-truck you see here. Known as an E Centurion, this van-truck was the brainchild of Centurion Vehicles, a former truck upfitter that also produced oddities like the C, a super-sized Bronco. As neat as vehicles like these are, they weren't enough to keep Centurion afloat and inthe company folded into another, more successful upfitter.
But still, nearly three decades after Centurion quit building van-trucks, its quaint creations maintain a devoted, knowledgable followingwhich rarely puts its prized peculiarities up for sale—hence why it's newsworthy that a Centurion E was just posted on Facebook Marketplace. Because Centurion was inconsistent with how it executed these van-truck conversions, sometimes stretching existing van chassis and others starting on the basis of chassis-cab trucks, it's hard to be sure whether this specific vehicle has more Econoline or F-series in its DNA.
Sportsmobile Classic 4×4
Either way, miles on the odometer make it a well-traveled example and serve as a testament to its durability. It's difficult to decipher exactly which engine this wacky worker is powered by, though photos show a power plant that's mounted underneath the center of the dash.
We can spot spark plug wires, meaning it isn't a diesel, and most Ford Es of this era touted a cubic-inch gas V8 for heavy-duty tasks.
That's likely the case here, with an automatic transmission sending power to the dually rear-end. Even with its proven reliability, this Centurion is in need of some TLC. Its interior has wear to match its odometer reading, at least one tire needs replacement, and its powertrain could probably use a once-over by now—if not a retrofitted Power Stroke diesel.
Still, if you want a vehicle that's equal parts workhorse and show pony, there's no better candidate than a Centurion, and you can't help but wish van-trucks like this were still in production today.
This beast. By James Gilboy February 27, Bobby Pineda on Facebook.Seatbelts for 5, sleeping for 3. Full Float rear axle. I am the 3rd owner and have owned it since 58, miles. All Spark plugs were already replaced at 55, miles which is really the only issue that eventually pops up with this super reliable and powerful engine. We have driven this all over the west without a single issue.
Includes 3 crossbars Roof box is negotiable - Will include custom Awning Z-brackets that allow you to mount most awnings to the rain gutter. With the above upgrades the van rides WAY better than stock! Top is in good condition. Gel-goat on top is worn but otherwise in good shape. There is 1 rip that happened with it got snagged putting the top up — we taped it with fabric tape as shown and it is no longer an issue.
Nova Kool Fridge with Freezer. We have boondocked running the fridge, fan, lights for around days at a time with no power issues. Would be easy to add solar to this rig if you needed more power. City Water Supply direct to faucet is installed as well — although we have never used it. The original owner had a wheelchair — so the space where our cooler is mounted in the photos is empty except for floor tracks for securing the wheel chair.
There is space there for another seat, some sort of storage solution, or just leave it empty. A few other small knicks in the paint but all very normal for age of the vehicle.
My guess it would be easy to repair or replace. Your Name required. Your Email required.

Looking to get out there—you know, really out there—but tents are a no-go and you don't want to drag a trailer to sleep in or drive something the size of a house?
Then you're looking for a camper van. These handy homes away from home are based on normal-sized trucks and vans, meaning they should fit in normal driveways and parking spaces and be fairly easy to drive. We've gathered up 10 worth considering, although fair warning: Even while the majority sit at the affordable end of the camper-van and conversion-van spectrum, they're all significantly pricier than a regular ol' van with an air mattress thrown in the back.
Looking for the bougiest luxury conversion van? Based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter a rather fine-driving commercial tool, if we may say sothe Nineteen includes a fold-out bed that spans the entire rear area of the camper van, as well as a bathroom, a kitchen, and even swiveling front seats that can turn to face the van's interior. The name Nineteen is a nod to this van's foot length, but spelling it out—instead of calling it the Interstate 19—adds a proper Airstream-y sense of class, don't you think?
Boho Camper Vans is chill. Like, super chill. So chill, in fact, that it doesn't even specify "models" or "trim levels" for its creations.
2003 Ford E350 RVs for sale
In fact, its creations seem entirely custom—you simply bring them money and a van, or let them pick a van for you, and the outfit will turn that van into a wood-lined cabin on wheels. Caravan Outfitter's Free Bird conversion vans are based on Nissan's humble NV cargo van, making them the smallest and most affordable on this list.
If you want a cheap conversion van, a small conversion van, or have a tiny parking spot, the Free Bird is likely your best option. The apparatus fairly fills the NV's cargo hold, and can be folded up to reveal booth-like seating with a central table, and also has slide-out drawers housing a quart fridge and a single-burner gas stove.
The Solis falls near the upper end of this roundup's price spectrum, and it hails from one of the RV industry's mainstays, Winnebago. All-new forthe Solis is based on the Ram ProMaster cargo van and thus is manageably sized. Nobody wants a chilly throne, right? The rest of the Solis camper van is well-equipped, with a pop-up roof for standing space, a reconfigurable bed, swiveling front seats that can flip to face the living area, and full insulation on the walls and plumbing so that the vehicle can be parked and used in wildly varied climates.
Like Boho vans, Outside Van generates custom van builds for customers.
Ford E 350 Camper Van RVs for sale
There is no set template, nor does the outfitter require a single make of donor van, although the company's website seems to show a preference for Mercedes-Benz Sprinters. All of these large camper vans have one thing in common, however: They're all rugged-looking and built for living vanlife off the beaten path. Those not interested in delving into Outside Van's involved custom ordering process can choose from among the already-built inventory the company has on hand at any given time.
This might be the one we'd choose to for a conversion van to live in. Happily, all three builds are affordable. The differences between Off Grid's designs are minimal, and mostly have to do with the integration of the bed, which can be a fold-out Murphy-style unit or fixed, etc.
Optional extras include an outdoor shower, a heater, a composting toilet, an extra solar panel, and a hot-water system. There are a number of camper models offered by the Sportsmobile brand, but easily the coolest is that based on the old Ford E-series commercial cutaway van chassis.
As Sportsmobile's website notes, the Ford Econoline E-series has been discontinued—but that doesn't mean it's stopped building them into campers. Customers can bring in used examples for conversion; those interested in a brand-new large conversion van can turn to Ford's E-series replacement, the Transit.
In any event, the E-series is bad-ass because it's tough as nails and, well, you could probably find one for cheap.
With four-wheel drive and burly tires, the Classic 4x4 is remarkably rugged-looking. Its old-school frame and relatively narrow body do result in what appears to be a smaller living space than you might get in a more space-efficient, commodious modern camper van like a Ram ProMaster or Ford's Transit. But who cares when you could take this Sportsmobile practically anywhere?
Sure, a tent is also small inside and goes anywhere, but this is way, way better. Similar to the Free Bird camper listed earlier in this roundup, Modvans' creations can be transitioned between full-fledged camper vans and empty, cargo-ready vans.Bigfoot only made about 52 of these, spanning the years of andat their Boardman, OR Plant, before they closed the plant.
This one is built on the E Chassis, powered by the Windsor V8 5. This one will sleep up to 4 people. These are nearly impossible to find. This one is ready to go for the seasons with a brand new set of tires, brand new brakes, the generator was just serviced with a new fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plug, and runs great.
